What is a CSA?

What is Community Shared Agriculture (CSA)?

A Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program is a supportive partnership between people and farmers.  You get fresh, local, ecologically grown food on a weekly basis.  Your committed support through a growing season keeps local farming and environmentally friendly growing alive.

Why Should You Join A CSA?

LOCAL FOOD IS HEALTHIER

Our farm is located in Toronto at Parc Downsview Park.  A weekly CSA share is full of fresh food that is often harvested the morning before you receive it.  Having more field time and less Hwy 401 time means more vitamins and nutrients than the stuff that is in the supermarket.  Our members also benefit from the unique experience of taking the subway to a peaceful farm within the urban jungle.

FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

CSA members receive produce grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.  Our CSA makes growing food more sustainable.  By not using chemical pesticides, we increase the biodiversity of life, build lively soil for optimal food production and protecting our watershed by eliminating chemical run-off.

A STRONGER LOCAL COMMUNITY

By supporting a local farm business, you strengthening the local economy and building a stronger community.  FoodCycles is a non-profit community project supporting local restaurants and businesses as well as offering food education and job training opportunities.

How Does it Work?

By purchasing a share in FoodCycles CSA program, you and your family visit FoodCycles farm once a week to pick up a pre-packaged bag of a fresh vegetables.  The CSA farmer will be on hand to answer questions about the farm.  Pick up times are often lively since members get to meet each other, sharing stories about food, family and community.
