CSA Plans

Our CSA program, now in its second year, offers 16 week shares of farm fresh produce, from July until October. We grow over 60 varieties of vegetables and fruits that include staples like garlic, carrots, tomatoes and leafy greens as well as varities not seen on store shelves.  The major benefit of our share is that it is local, and freshly picked the morning of your share pick up, preserving the freshness and nutrients of your food, unlike food that is trucked into Toronto from all around the globe.

I picked up my second delivery of food last night and got it home, all the time pondering how I could put the ingredients together. A Korean hot pot came to mind, and I dutifully pulled out everything I thought might be good in it (which, as it turns out, was every type of vegetable in the delivery). Nearly everything I pulled out begged to be eaten raw (except the onion, which was still awfully tempting as a cooked vegetable), and so I indulged as I chopped. The beets were spectacular, the beans were colourful and sweet, and the lettuce (which Ive brought for lunch today) looked scrumptious. There was even an oddly shaped and coloured tomato in there, which I devoured almost whole. As soon as I got my hot pot cooking and covered, I emailed Katie to tell her how delighted I was with this order.

The hot pot was enthusiastically consumed in my pretty yard, with two cats hungrily eyeballing the plate. I look forward to a similar meal of leftovers at lunch.

This email is intended for circulation to everyone involved with this fine initiative. I want you all to know that I am absolutely thrilled with this food, with your service, with the price. I have emailed friends to encourage them to join and will probably drive all my workmates to madness today with my non-stop prattle on the wonders of Food Cycles.

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

Most sincerely,
Christine Brucechristine Bruce
